Central Pharmacy Outpatient supplies medications for mental illnesses to individuals meeting certain eligibility criteria. Most of those eligible are receiving services from community mental health centers throughout Ohio. Central Pharmacy Outpatient also services county detention facilities.
Mental Health Boards contract with community mental health centers. Together they determine eligibility by using financial and clinical eligibility guidelines. Additional criteria for eligibility includes:
children/adolescents with a severe emotional disturbance
those at risk of hospitalization if medications were discontinued
those recently released from a mental health inpatient facility
Central Pharmacy Outpatient utilizes the state contract to purchase and provide medications at the lowest possible cost. Mental health centers and county detention centers have the option of mailing or faxing orders to the central dispensing facility. Medication is then sent back via a commercial carrier or the OSS transportation system.
