Our Vision

We visualize strong African American families and individuals who are fully educated, employed, empowered, healthy with quality housing, and whose contributions are valued and recognized as benefiting the total community.

Our Mission

Our mission is to eliminate the barriers of racism and level the playing field for all African Americans and others at risk by promoting their economic self-sufficiency and entrepreneurship through effective leadership in the areas of comprehensive employment, youth and family development, and advocacy.

Programs:

After School League

The goal of this program area is to increase student achievement through academic enrichment opportunities. It features the Urban League’s innovative Cincy After School programs at Avondale’s Community Learning Centers, Supplemental Education Services tutoring and Centers of ExcellenceSM at two local churches.   To speak with someone about these services, please call 513-281-4450.

Community Learning Centers

The Urban League serves as the Community Learning Center lead agency for Rockdale, South Avondale and Burton schools. We engage the broader community to offer academic and social enrichment, and support for the success of students and their families.  To speak with someone about these services, please call 513-281-9955.

Youth Works

Currently conducted in cooperation with the Kroger Company and the Coca Cola Company, this program teaches young people how to prepare for their first job interview and trains them for success in their first work experience.

Like the Urban League's adult workforce program, SOARSM, Urban League trainers focus on appropriate dress and work behavior, employee/supervisor communication, time, and conflict management.

Free trainings are conducted twice per year, three Saturdays per training session. YouthWorksSM is the League's nationally recognized program to help young adults (16-22) prepare for employment opportunities. Job seekers are taught how to apply in person, online and prepare successful interviewing techniques. Employer expectations, such as performance at work and good customer service, are among the topics covered.

To speak with someone about this program, please call 513-281-4450.

Education Summit and College Fair

The Education SummitSM is held each fall to help area students gain valuable insights and information on how to succeed in college. They learn about life in the university environment, what it takes to submit a successful application, and what living on campus will be like. Noted educators and guest speakers are on hand to guide them through this informative half-day seminar.  To speak with someone about this program, please call 513-281-4450.

NULITES

The National Urban League's Incentive to Excel and Succeed program is our premier youth leadership development program. Through regular meetings, field trips and discussion groups, this program helps high school students develop long-term goals and strategies for success as adults. This 9-month program covers topics from etiquette to active community services. Participants also travel to attend the National Urban League's annual conference.  To speak with someone about this program, please call 513-281-4450.
